From the demo to the workflow that stays in production
Building an n8n workflow that works once takes an afternoon. The hard part comes after: it must not stop when an application fails, keys must not be left in plain view, someone else on the team must understand what it does, and the AI must not act without anyone supervising it.
The course goes through n8n with real processes from your company: which trigger to use, how to connect Gmail, Google Sheets or the CRM, where an AI node makes sense and how errors and credentials are handled. We teach it live, in your language, and it can be funded through FUNDAE, subject to credit and requirements.
n8n course syllabus: the eight modules
The syllabus is adjusted to each group's level and to your team's processes; these are the modules we work with.
01Triggers and webhooks
How a workflow starts: a form, an incoming email, a webhook, a spreadsheet that changes or a schedule. You learn to follow the data from node to node and to test every step before activating it.
02Connections to your applications
Gmail, Google Sheets, Calendar, a CRM, a database or any service with an API. We practise the connections you actually use and how to give each workflow only the permissions it needs.
03Expressions and data logic
Conditions, loops, expressions to read and transform data from one node to the next, and the code node when needed. You don't need to code to start; you do need to understand how data moves so you don't lose it along the way.
04AI nodes
How to call an OpenAI or Claude model from a workflow to sort emails, extract data from a document or write a draft, with clear instructions and an output the rest of the workflow can use.
05AI agents in n8n
How to build an agent that decides which tool to use, what limits to set on it and where to add a human review step when a mistake would be costly.
06Error handling
What happens when a workflow fails: alerts, retries and execution logs. We practise with missing data, applications that don't respond and formats that change.
07Credentials and security
How access keys are stored without leaving them written in nodes or in screenshots, who can reach the instance and which data should not be sent to an external model.
08n8n cloud or self-hosted
What it means to run n8n on your own server (installation, backups, updates) compared with using n8n's cloud service, and how to decide based on your data and your technical team.
Who the n8n course is for
Administration, operations and marketing teams
People without a technical profile who repeat the same tasks every week between email, spreadsheets and the CRM, and want to automate them without depending on someone else.
Technical profiles who want a method
Anyone who has already tried n8n on their own and wants to put what they know in order: expressions, error handling, credentials and deployment.
People who have to decide
Whoever must choose between cloud and self-hosting, or between n8n, Make and Zapier, and needs security and maintenance criteria before committing the team.
What you take away
Workflows of your own, running
One complete workflow, from trigger to result, built with your applications and tested on real data.
Judgement on using AI
You know where to put an AI node or an agent, where a human review is worth it and which data should not leave for an external model.
A reasoned hosting decision
n8n cloud or your own server, with what each option means for maintenance, backups and control of your data.
Workflows someone else can maintain
Named workflows, a note on what they do, error alerts and properly stored keys, so the team doesn't depend on a third party for every change.
Why a course and not just tutorials
A workflow that works is not a workflow that lasts
Tutorials teach the happy path. Here we practise what happens when a value is missing, when an application doesn't respond or when a format changes, which decides whether a workflow is useful day to day.
AI with oversight, not blind
An AI node is sometimes wrong. You learn where a human review belongs, which data should not be sent to an external model and how to keep a record of what the workflow has done.
Cases from your sector
An accountancy firm, a shop, a clinic or a school do not automate the same things. The exercises start from your team's processes: invoices, customer emails, onboarding, periodic reports.
Your team keeps the workflow
The goal is that, when we finish, someone on your team can maintain and extend what has been built, with workflows named and documented, and not depend on a third party for every change.
How we work in the course
- 01
We pick a real process
Before starting we look at which repetitive tasks cost you most and which are good candidates: frequent, with clear rules and with data already in some application.
- 02
We build the first workflow together
With your applications connected, we build a complete workflow step by step, from trigger to result, and test it with real data.
- 03
We add AI with control
We add an AI node where it brings value, with clear instructions, a review step and a structured output the rest of the workflow can use.
- 04
Errors, credentials and go-live
We leave the workflow with error alerts, keys stored properly, a name that makes sense and a note on what it does, so it can be activated and maintained with confidence.

n8n in the cloud or on your own server
n8n can be used as n8n's cloud service or installed on your own server. The cloud saves maintenance; self-hosting gives more control over where the data lives, but you have to look after installation, backups and updates. In the course we compare the two options for your case and work with the one you choose.
n8n is distributed under n8n GmbH's Sustainable Use License, a "fair-code" licence, not a conventional open-source licence. Before deciding to self-host it, read the official licence text and check that it fits your use: we don't interpret it for you.
IAescola and n8n
IAescola is an independent training provider: it is not a partner of n8n and is not certified by n8n. n8n is a trademark of n8n GmbH. We teach how to use it in practice, and if another tool suits a particular process better, we will tell you.
Prefer us to build the first workflow?
We also build automations to order. It is a separate service from training, quoted according to scope and not eligible for FUNDAE funding. You can start with a workflow we build and, at the same time, train someone to maintain it.
Julien, the founder, runs n8n in production on IAescola's own self-hosted instance for the school's internal processes.

The n8n course is eligible for FUNDAE funding (fully or partially, subject to credit and applicable requirements); custom builds are not training and aren't funded
IAescola is a registered training provider (code 9900033425) and a FUNDAE organising entity. We handle the notifications and prepare the documentation; your company keeps the obligations that apply to it as the beneficiary company.
- 01Registration of the training action and start notification of the group to FUNDAE within the deadlines.
- 02Execution documentation: attendance, assessment and certificates of achievement or attendance.
- 03Final supporting documentation so your company can offset the cost against Social Security contributions.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to know how to code to learn n8n?
Not to get started. n8n is a visual tool: you build by joining nodes. Coding helps in advanced cases, where a code node is used, but most of a team's workflows are built without writing code. What matters is understanding how data moves between steps, and that is what we practise.
What does the n8n course cover and how long is it?
Eight modules: triggers and webhooks, connections to your applications, expressions and data logic, AI nodes, AI agents, error handling, credentials and security, and n8n cloud versus self-hosted. It is adjusted to each group's level and to the company's real processes. It depends on the team and how many modules you want to cover. After an initial conversation we propose a length and a schedule, live online or in person in Catalonia. If you come on your own, we write to you with the dates and length of the next edition before you confirm anything.
Do I have to pay to learn n8n, or are the free tutorials enough?
There are free tutorials and courses, including n8n's own, and they are good for getting started. A live course adds that you start from your own processes, applications and data, and that someone reviews your workflows and helps you decide what to automate, how to store keys and where to put a human review.
Should we use n8n in the cloud or on our own server?
You can use n8n's cloud service or install it on your own server. The cloud needs less maintenance; your own server gives more control over where the data is, but means looking after backups and updates. n8n is distributed under the Sustainable Use License (fair-code), so before self-hosting it you should read the official text. In the course we look at it for your case.
Is the n8n course eligible for FUNDAE funding?
Yes. IAescola is a registered training provider (code 9900033425) and a FUNDAE organising entity, and we file the FUNDAE notifications and prepare the documentation so your company can get funding for the cost, subject to the available credit and applicable requirements. Building workflows to order is not training and isn't funded.
How is n8n different from Make or Zapier?
All three connect applications and let you add AI steps. Make and Zapier are cloud services used from the browser; n8n, besides its cloud, can be installed on your own server and includes a code node for cases that need it. There is no single right choice: it depends on what you already use, where the data must be and who will maintain the workflows. If another tool suits you better, we will say so.
Can you build our first workflow for us?
Yes. As well as training, IAescola builds automations to order. It is quoted according to scope after an initial conversation and is not eligible for FUNDAE funding. Combining the two is common: we build the first workflow and train someone on your team to maintain it.
Can I take the n8n course on my own, without a company?
Yes. Besides training for teams, we are preparing open-group editions for people who come on their own, live online or in person in Catalonia, in Spanish or Catalan. Join the list for the next edition and we will write to you with dates and price before you confirm anything. FUNDAE funding is for companies training their staff, so it does not apply to individuals. If you come on your own, you also receive an IAescola certificate of participation at the end.
