Microsoft 365 Copilot: the AI that works with your company's data
The key difference between Copilot and tools like ChatGPT is that Copilot has access to your Microsoft 365 tenant data: your Outlook emails, your documents in SharePoint, your Teams conversations, your Excel spreadsheets. It can draft an email with context from your history, summarise Teams meetings, analyse data from a report that lives in SharePoint, or generate a presentation from a Word document. That makes it qualitatively different, and also more sensitive.
Using it well requires understanding how the permissions model works: Copilot only accesses what the user can already see, but in organisations with poorly configured permissions that may mean someone sees content they should not. In this training we learn to use Copilot effectively in each M365 application and to understand what it implies in terms of governance, permissions and organisational adoption.
Why Copilot needs specific training, not the same as ChatGPT
It works differently in each M365 application
Copilot in Word generates drafts from other tenant documents. In Excel it analyses data and creates formulas in natural language. In Outlook it drafts replies with the context of the thread. In Teams it summarises meetings and extracts actions. In PowerPoint it creates presentations from a text brief. Each use has its own logic and limits: the training covers the cases that genuinely save time.
It accesses internal company data, with all that implies
Copilot works with real tenant data: documents in SharePoint, emails, Teams chats. That means it can generate genuinely relevant content, but it also means that permissions configuration and labelling of sensitive information (with Microsoft Purview) are decisions that need to be made before deploying it. The training explains what Copilot sees and what it does not, and how to prepare the environment.
The challenge is adoption, not access
Most organisations that buy Copilot licences see low real usage in the first months: the team does not know where to start, tries to use it like ChatGPT and gets frustrated when the results are not what they expected. The training solves this problem with practical role-specific use cases, documented workflows and follow-up sessions.
Licences, costs and when the upgrade makes sense
Copilot for Microsoft 365 has a significant per-licence cost (and requires already having M365 Business or Enterprise). It does not always make sense for every role in the organisation. In the training we analyse which profiles get the most value, how to calculate the real ROI and how to plan a phased rollout.
How we work in the course
1. Review of the client's M365 environment
Before we start we look at the current configuration: active licences, M365 apps in use, level of SharePoint and Teams adoption, basic permissions setup. This allows us to tailor the training to the real environment, not a fictitious tenant.
2. Application-by-application training with real cases
Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint: we work through each application with the team's real documents and processes. The goal is that by the end of each block each participant has produced something with Copilot they can use directly.
3. Governance and permissions: what the IT lead needs to know
A dedicated block for technical and IT leads: how Copilot's permissions model works, what Microsoft Purview implies for labelling sensitive information, how to audit what Copilot does in the environment, and what Microsoft's recommendations are for a secure deployment.
4. Adoption plan for the team
The training ends with an adoption plan: which use cases are prioritised, how impact is measured, which follow-up sessions are scheduled and how approved prompts are documented so the team has a shared reference base.

Do we need Copilot licences already to take the training?
For the full practical component, yes: participants need to have the Copilot for Microsoft 365 licence activated on their accounts. If you do not have licences yet but are evaluating whether to buy them, we can deliver an introductory theory and use-case session to help you decide before committing to the cost.
What is the difference between Copilot for M365 and Copilot Free or Copilot in Windows?
They are different products. Copilot Free (in Bing or Windows) is a general-purpose assistant with no access to company data. Copilot for Microsoft 365 is the one that integrates with Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and SharePoint and has access to tenant data. This training is specifically for Copilot for Microsoft 365, the paid version integrated into the work apps.
Does Copilot access all company documents or only the user's own?
Only those the user already has permission to view according to the SharePoint and Microsoft 365 configuration. If a document is on a restricted SharePoint site the user cannot access, Copilot does not see it. The problem arises in organisations with overly open permissions: Copilot may access more than the user normally consults. That is why permissions governance is part of the training.
Which M365 applications does the course cover?
The main daily-use applications: Word (drafts, summaries, revisions), Excel (natural-language analysis, formulas, visualisations), Outlook (email drafting, thread summaries), Teams (meeting summaries, action extraction, Copilot chat), PowerPoint (presentation generation from document). We adjust the emphasis based on the apps the client's team uses most.
Does the training include Microsoft Copilot Studio or just the M365 apps?
The standard course covers Copilot integrated into M365 applications. Microsoft Copilot Studio (the tool for building custom agents and copilots) is a more technical product aimed at developers and IT leads. If there is interest in Copilot Studio, we include it in specific programmes for more technically-oriented teams or as an add-on module.
How many hours does it last and how is it organised?
There are several formats: a 4h introduction (general overview of Copilot in M365 with demos and first use cases), an applied programme of 16h across 4 sessions (real practice in each app with the team's own documents), and a complete programme with follow-up of up to 40h for teams that want a structured adoption plan. We define the format based on your starting level and goals in the free discovery session.
